Childhood cancers are rare diseases, unlike adult cancers, and include common types likeleukemia, brain tumors, lymphomas, and solid tumors such as neuroblastoma and Wilms tumor. While the causes are often random genetic defects and not lifestyle-related, symptoms can mimic common childhood ailments and require prompt diagnosis and treatment, which often involve surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, or bone marrow transplants.
Types of childhood cancers
Leukemias : Cancers of the blood and bone marrow; Acute lymphoblastic leukemia is the most frequent childhood cancer.
Brain and other central nervous system (CNS) tumors : Abnormal cells that form in the brain or spinal cord.
Lymphomas : Cancers that affect the lymphatic system.
