In simpler words the uncontrolled growth of cells ends up forming a mass of cells and that can spread to the other parts of body is termed as cancer. It is an uncommon malignancy that starts in anus; American cancer society estimated about 8,200 cases of anal cancer in year 2017 in US. Hormone Therapy also destroys the Cancer cells that have come back or invaded into other areas of the body.
Targeted Therapy : Cancer researches and experts have observed and found than there are some differences in the Cancer cells or even the cells surrounding them, which cause the Cancer cells to thrive and grow further. To diminish these differences, there are some drugs available today that particularly target these and this form of treatment is known as Targeted Therapy. What separates the drugs used in Targeted Therapy is, that these drugs attack the inner workings of Cancer cells.
More specifically, the programming which makes these cells different from the healthy and normal cells. However, the healthy ones are left alone in this process. Some of the Targeted Drugs are more focused and can attack many different changes in the Cancer cells.
Immunotherapy : This is also referred to as Biotherapy or Biologic Therapy. In this form of treatment, the patient’s own immune system is stimulated to work harder and smarter so that the Cancer cells can be attacked. Also, immune system components are given, like man-made immune system proteins. This treatment is used either alone or in combination with other Cancer treatment. It has proved very effective for curing advanced Lung Cancer, Lymphoma (Hodgkin and Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma).
Pain Management : In Cancer, the pain can result from the ailment itself, or from the treatment that the patient is undergoing or sometimes, the patients who have been cured, can continue suffering from the pain. In order to help such patients, there are many pain relief medications, Narcotic pain relievers, anti-depressants, anti-seizure medications or anticonvulsants, and other kinds of drugs. There are pain relief injections as well that are given in or near the nerve or spine.
More specifically, when it comes to Breast Cancer, Dr. Shizan endorses the BRCA Test. This is gene test that uses DNA analysis to locate harmful mutations or changes, in any of the two Breast Cancer susceptibility genes, which are BRCA1 and BRCA2. If the test is positive, then a Preventive Prophylactic Mastectomy is suggested because this lowers the chance of recurrence of Breach Cancer by almost 85-90 percent. However, not every patient needs to under this procedure as there is an option, where the patient can be under meticulous screening that includes frequent MRIs (Magnetic Resonance Imaging), Mammograms and Ultrasounds.
