 Surgery   

 

  • Lumpectomy: A procedure that removes a tumor from the breast

  • Mastectomy: A procedure that removes the breast tissue, nipple, areola, and skin

 Chemotherapy 

   

 

  • Uses drugs to kill or shrink cancer cells 

  • Drugs can be taken as pills or given intravenously 

  • Side effects include fatigue, nausea, and vomiting 

      

 Radiation therapy 

   

 

  • Uses high-energy rays to kill cancer 

  • Reduces the risk of cancer returning in the breast and surrounding tissues 

  • Side effects include fatigue and nausea 

      

 Hormonal therapy   

 

  • Blocks cancer cells from getting the hormones they need to grow

  • Side effects include gastrointestinal issues like constipation and diarrhea

 Immunotherapy 

   

 

  • Works with the body's immune system to fight cancer cells 

  • Side effects include gastrointestinal issues like constipation and diarrhea 

      

 Targeted therapy   

 

  • Uses drugs to block receptors on cancer cells that attach to hormones 

  •  

  • Side effects include gastrointestinal issues like constipation and diarrhea 

  •
